French Press brew guide (1 cup)
Brew time : 2–3 min
The French Press is one of the most popular brewing methods, using a metal filter and immersion technique to produce a rich, full-bodied cup. Ideal for both individual use and sharing, it delivers depth and texture in every brew.
♦ Pro tips from Golden Ethiopian coffee roasters
- Use water at 92–96°C
- Avoid plunging too fast, keep it slow and controlled
- For cleaner flavour, skim foam before plunging (optional)
- Adjust grind size:
- Too bitter → grind coarser
- Too weak → grind slightly finer

BREW RATIO
12g coffee : 200g water
STEP ONE : Prepare your coffee
Boil fresh water. While heating, weigh 12g of coffee beans and grind to a coarse consistency (similar to breadcrumbs).
STEP TWO : Preheat
Pour hot water into the french press to preheat. This helps maintain a stable brewing temperature. Discard the water before brewing.
STEP THREE : Add Coffee
Add the ground coffee to the french press and place it on your scale.
STEP FOUR : Bloom & stir (0:00)
Start your timer and pour 200g of hot water over the coffee grounds. Gently stir to ensure all grounds are fully saturated.
Note : Proper immersion ensures even extraction.
STEP FIVE : Steep (0:30 – 4:00)
Place the lid on and gently press the plunger just enough to keep the coffee grounds submerged below the surface.
Allow the coffee to steep undisturbed.
STEP SIX : Plunge & serve (4:00)
At 4 minutes, slowly press the plunger down to separate the grounds from the brewed coffee. Pour immediately and serve.
Note : Pouring straight away prevents over-extraction and bitterness.
