Kalita wave brew guide (1 Cup)
Brew time : 2–3 min
The Kalita Wave is a flat-bottom pour-over brewer designed for even and consistent extraction. Unlike cone brewers, its flat bed and wave filter allow for a more controlled flow, producing a balanced, smooth, and well-rounded cup, sitting between the clarity of V60 and the body of French Press.

BREW RATIO
12g coffee : 200g water
STEP ONE : Prepare your coffee
Boil fresh water. While heating, weigh 12g of coffee beans and grind to a medium consistency (similar to table salt).
STEP TWO : Rinse the filter
Place the paper filter into the Kalita Wave and rinse thoroughly with hot water to preheat the brewer and remove any paper taste. Discard the rinse water.
STEP THREE : Add coffee
Add the ground coffee to the dripper, gently shake to level the bed, and place on a scale. Tare the scale to zero.
Note : A flat, even coffee bed ensures consistent extraction.
STEP FOUR : Bloom (0:00 – 0:30)
Start your timer and pour 50g of water evenly over the coffee grounds.
Note : Ensure all grounds are fully saturated to allow proper degassing.
STEP FIVE : Controlled pouring
Continue pouring in stages:
- 0:30 → Pour up to 125g
- Allow water to drain slightly
- 1:00 → Pour up to 200g
Pour gently in a circular motion, keeping the flow steady and controlled.
STEP SIX : Drawdown & serve
Allow the water to fully drain through the coffee bed.
Remove the Kalita Wave and serve immediately.
Note : Aflat, even bed at the end indicates a well-balanced extraction.
